The 2020 RACE was rescheduled from 3/21 to 8/15 due to COVID-19, and now must be a VIRTUAL race due to the pandemic since an event permit was not approved under current circumstances.
This will be the third year the Longview Half Marathon and 3.21 Mile Race will be hosted by #ETDSG. As most nonprofits depend on fundraisers like this to continue supporting those we serve, we are very grateful for our racers and sponsors who’ve stuck with us during this difficult time. Race packets including shirt, rockin’ socks, medal, and loot from sponsors will be mailed out to all who are registered.
The Longview Half Marathon has become an annual tradition in March and we are planning to continue that in 2021. It’s a unique half marathon and 3.21 mile race as we celebrate our friends in the East Texas community who have Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome. This diagnosis means they have 3 copies of chromosome 21 instead of only two so come run the extra for those who rock their extra 21st chromosome.
Registration closes on August 5, 2020.
Our race purpose is to advocate for acceptance and inclusion in the community for those with Down syndrome and other disabilities. Proceeds go to the East Texas Down Syndrome Group.
In your swag bag there will be a coupon for a FREE drink at Silver Grizzly Espresso. They have donated coffee to our racers at the start/finish line the last two years. We’re lucky to have such a great supporter. The plan this year was to pay for the drink for each racer + tip the staff at Silver Grizzly to help with lost income during the pandemic. We still want to GIVE BACK to them so proceeds from the race will also be supporting Silver Grizzly staff who've been such a huge contributor to our #ETDSG families.
This event, along with the Buddy Walk, are the main fundraisers for the East Texas Down Syndrome Group. We thank you for your patronage and support, especially during these times.
